Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Keziliqiman, Pishan County, Xinjiang. It was named by the compiling group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale of Xinjiang in 1976.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Dominated by a suite of carbonate rock with minor clastic rock. At Keziliqiman, it is composed of dark-gray and gray moderately thick-bedded to massive laminar limestone (often containing lumps, oolitic textures and knotty structures), gray dolomite intercalated with minor brown-gray mudstone and gray-green sandstone. Thickness 306.7 m. Westward to Qiaketeleke of Yengisar County it is 683.7 m thick, showing increasing thickness from east to west.

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Azigan Fm

Upper contact

Unconformable contact with the overlying mid-Early Permian of Keziliqiman Fm, Qipan Fm, or Pusige Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in piedmont Kunlun Mts. south of Yengisar-Yecheng-Pishan, completely developed, extending in a NW-trend

Fusulinid Eoparafusulina shengi-E. instabilis, Pseudoschwagerina and Triticites assemblage zones; Conodont Neostreptognathodus pequopensis-Sweetognathodus whitei-Lonchodina festiva assemblage zones; Corals Eowentzelellites sp., Pseudozaphrentoides nosovi, Lytvophyllum mengi and Caninophyllum gurovi; Brachiopods Choristites nikitini, Meekella uralica, Martinia shansiensis and Enteletes obesa as well as bivalves, foraminifers, etc
